Managing a Wood Door Warehouse

Posted March 29, 2009 – 1:42 pm in: Real Estate

A wood door warehouse is NOT a lumberyard! It is a warehouse! Each shipment of wood entry doors is carefully unloaded, inspected and organized in the warehouse by species, size (width and length) as well as style. A wood door warehouse can have several size and species variations for just one style.

The slab wood doors have to be kept away from moisture, they have to be stacked very carefully and the stock has to be rotated regularly so that the supply-line does not “age” while in storage. Now you need to know what a slab door is, a slab door is an un-prepped, non-handed, in most cases open door, without the decorative glass. In other words, an unfinished door. Additionally, the exterior wooden doors have to be kept clean, covered and well taken care of, as abuse can greatly affect this very natural and beautiful item.

The exterior wood doors have to be handled well, with care and be delivered to the assembly and machining process in the same condition as first received in the warehouse. We cannot overemphasize the cleanliness, neatness and organization that are needed in a wood door warehouse. It is worth saying though that anyone involved in this process, is involved for life.

The wood doors are in a way a connection to our past as well as our future, and they are our connection to nature. They are indeed a very fascinating and very important part of a house. Wood doors, and in particularly a front entry door, command our respect as they are the first thing anyone notices about a home. Managing them well in the warehouse is where it all begins.
