Treasure Hunting with Metal Detectors

Have you ever been on the beach and seen somebody walk along with a pair of earphones on carrying a metal rod that has a box attached to it and the end of it has a round disk that they are swinging back and forth slowly? Well, that person was treasure hunting on the beach. Think about it, have you ever lost your car keys on the beach or maybe a piece of jewelry or even change? That person will find it because they are using a metal detector.

This can be a fantastic hobby and pastime for the whole family. It can be done at the beach and other places like a forest or a park area, anywhere where people gather in groups. You should also realize that there would be little bit of digging involved because the items you find would not be there if they were lying on top of the ground.

Most people, think of a walk through metal detector, like the ones at the airport, when they hear “metal detector”. These would not help you in your new hobby of treasure hunting. In fact, there are special hand-held metal detectors just for treasure hunting. There are even detectors that detect gold.

Treasure hunting metal detectors are usually called land or relic detectors and are used on land, in the woods, playgrounds and parks. These can be used in the water’s edge or even in a couple of inches of water because the coils are waterproof. However, do not drop the whole unit into the water because it is just the coils that are waterproof. Moreover, there are metal detectors that are completely waterproof for those people who want to search the bottom of oceans or lakes.
